Escalon Police reported a couple of felony arrests during the past week and also charged a motorcyclist with driving under the influence.
The motorcycle driver was found to be DUI after he ran his motorcycle into the back of a car at Highway 120 and Viking Street shortly after 8 a.m. Tuesday, April 8. The 56-year-old Oakdale man was not seriously injured but was found to be intoxicated. He was taken to the local police station, processed and released to a relative on the citation.
On Friday, April 11, officers made contact with subjects in a reported suspicious vehicle in the 1800 block of Coley. One person was found to have a felony no bail warrant out of the San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Department for reckless driving and being a felon in possession of ammunition. Officers took Joseph Perriera, 60, of Escalon into custody on the warrant about 9:30 p.m. He was booked at San Joaquin County Jail.
Police also responded to the 1600 block of Mitchell on Sunday evening, April 13 about 8:40 p.m. on a report of a suspicion person. They made contact with subjects in the area and subsequently discovered one man had outstanding warrants. Mikael Soper, 25, of Escalon was taken into custody on a felony transportation of controlled substance, resisting arrest and DUI warrant out of the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Department, with a bail of $15,000. He also had a misdemeanor warrant out of Tuolumne County for $5000, for possession of marijuana and possession of paraphernalia. He was booked at county jail.
