Community Hospice Releases Fall/Holiday Events Calendar

A number of special events and activities have been planned through Community Hospice, with everything from golf to learning coping skills among the offerings.

Golf Fore Community Hospice is set for Monday, Sept. 17 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Del Rio Country Club, 801 Stewart Road, Modesto. This Community Hospice Foundation golf tournament fundraiser benefits the patients, families and programs of Community Hospice. The tournament will follow a four person scramble format. Golfers will enjoy a fun-filled day on the greens, lunch, dinner and silent and live auctions. Coping With The Holidays is scheduled for Monday, Nov. 12 at 6:30 p.m. at Community Hospice, 4368 Spyres Way, Modesto.

The holidays are often the most difficult time of the year for those who have lost a loved one. Community Hospice is hosting a free workshop to help those in the community cope with their grief during the holidays. Participants will receive information to help them understand what they are experiencing and learn coping skills. The program will close with a memorial candle lighting ceremony. Fantasy of Trees/Santa Shares Breakfast runs both Nov. 30 and Dec. 1 at the Gallo Center for the Arts, 1000 I St., Modesto.

The designer decorated tree and wreath auction, holiday luncheon and boutique will be offered on Friday, Nov. 30 from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., with lunch at noon.

The Santa Shares Breakfast event is Saturday, Dec. 1 from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Rediscover the wonder this holiday season. Join the Friends of Community Hospice as they transform The Gallo Center for the Arts into a winter wonderland, filled with designer-decorated trees, unique holiday gifts, tasty treats and a special visit from Santa. The 33rd Annual Light Up a Life Holiday Tree Lighting is on the schedule for Sunday, Dec. 2 at 5 p.m., hosted at Memorial Medical Center, 1700 Coffee Road, Modesto. The big evergreen tree, at the corner of Coffee Road and Briggsmore Avenue in Modesto, is lit to honor, celebrate and remember loved ones. Symbolic lights and ornaments are available for a nominal donation. Immediately following the ceremony, refreshments will be available at a free community reception. If you are interested in purchasing a symbolic light or ornament, call the Community Hospice Foundation at 209-578-6370. The event is free to attend and open to the community.

Community Hospice is the largest and oldest nonprofit hospice agency in the Central Valley. Serving the community since 1979, Community Hospice has cared for thousands of friends and neighbors offering compassionate and quality care, education and support to terminally ill patients and families, regardless of ability to pay. Care extends to over 2000 patients each year in private homes, skilled nursing facilities, retirement communities and at the 16-bed inpatient Community Hospice Alexander Cohen Hospice House.
