Blood Drive Scheduled

The Red Cross will be in Oakdale for a community blood drive on Friday, June 19 at the Bianchi Community Center, 110 S. Second Ave., from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Donations will benefit Isabella ‘Izzy’ Morales, a local teen who is currently battling leukemia. To support social distancing, appointments are required. Make an appointment at and enter sponsor code “Izzy” or call 1-800-RED-CROSS. All those eligible in the community are asked to donate in honor of Izzy and help save lives. If you cannot donate on that day, you may contact the Red Cross to donate and use the code “Izzy”. In addition to donations for Izzy, the American Red Cross currently has an urgent need for blood donations to prevent another blood shortage as hospitals resume surgical procedures and patient treatments that were temporarily paused earlier this spring in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Healthy individuals who are feeling well are asked to make an appointment to donate in the weeks and months ahead by downloading the free Red Cross Blood Donor App, visiting, calling 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767) or enabling the Blood Donor Skill on any Alexa Echo device.

Read This Summer

The Stanislaus County Library invites all ages to join the Summer Reading Challenge, “Dig Deeper: Read, Investigate, Discover!” Children and teens participate by keeping track of each day they spend time reading – a 30-minute challenge for ages up to eight-years-old and an hour challenge for ages eight and older. Adults are asked to write brief reviews of the books they read this summer. This year’s Summer Reading Challenge will be a little different, with virtual programs and performers, and reading logs and book review forms available to download online. It runs through Aug. 1 this year, and participants will be able to collect a prize at the end of the program. Adult participants will be entered into a gift card drawing with each book review they submit. Visit throughout the summer for dates and details of special performances that will be available to view online.

Wednesday Night Market

Make plans to visit the weekly Oakdale Farmers Market, scheduled for Wednesday evenings through September. Hours are 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and each week will feature a variety of produce vendors, food booths, merchandise and more. There will also be some live entertainment and the opportunity to purchase dinner on the go while you stroll the market. The booths are set up along North Third Avenue, between E and F streets in downtown Oakdale.

No Motor Madness

Members of the Soroptimist International of Oakdale have made the decision to cancel their annual ‘Motor Madness’ Fundraiser for this year. Originally scheduled for March 28, the event was first postponed until Saturday, June 13 but officials have now decided to cancel it altogether for 2020. They plan to bring the fundraiser back in 2021.
