Step back in time and celebrate in style Friends of Columbia are planning an unforgettable 1940s-themed evening as they commemorate the 79th Anniversary of Columbia becoming a State Historic Park. All are encouraged to join in for a night of swing dancing, live music, and nostalgic fun on Saturday, July 12 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Feel the rhythm and let the tunes of Rod Harris and his Orchestra transport you back to the golden era of swing. The gathering will celebrate 79 years of preserving California’s rich Gold Rush history, and this night promises a delightful journey back to the 1940s, capturing the essence of the time when Columbia State Historic Park was established.
Dust off your dancing shoes and don your best 1940s attire for a chance to shine in the dance and costume contests, competing for prizes. There will also be a silent auction and raffle, with surprises and opportunities to support Friends of Columbia State Historic Park. Every dollar raised remains in Columbia, ensuring the continuation of cultural and educational events that bring history to life all year round.
Due to limited seating, attendees are encouraged to bring their own chairs to enjoy the event comfortably. While the event is free for all to attend, the ‘Friends’ also offer exclusive VIP tables for those seeking an elevated experience. For just $100, a party of four can enjoy reserved seating, refreshments, and a bottle of champagne or wine; perfect for toasting a night of music, dancing and memories.
Friends of Columbia State Historic Park puts on this unique annual event, with proceeds supporting the preservation of California’s Gold Rush heritage and enriching the community through educational resources, school tours, historical exhibits, interpretive reenactments, restoration projects, and special community events.
