Citywide Yard Sale, Youth Center Events
escalon

Some special events – including a popular annual rite of fall – are coming up in the City of Escalon.

It’s almost time for the citywide yard sale, which is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 6 from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

This year marks the 26th annual event and sign-ups are being taken now to get your address listed on the map that is produced at City Hall for the sale. Shoppers come in from the Bay Area, Sacramento, Sonora, Modesto and beyond for the coordinated sale, which typically sees dozens of sale locations listed on the map and others springing up throughout the community.

A form for participation in the sale, to get your address listed, is available at City Hall and was also included with the September-October City of Escalon Newsletter. There is a $5 fee that helps defray costs of printing the maps and covers regional advertising for the sale. Forms must be turned in at City Hall by Tuesday, Oct. 2 in order for addresses to be put on the map. The maps are available at local businesses a couple of days prior to the event and are placed outside City Hall on McHenry Avenue on yard sale day.

Meanwhile, prior to the citywide sale in early October, the Escalon Youth Center is planning two different events for the community.

First, a ‘Fortnige’ video game tournament is set for this Friday, Sept. 21 at the Youth Center, 1328 Escalon Ave., with a $5 entry fee and prizes available. Hours are 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

On Thursday, Sept. 27, all in the community are invited to a free ‘Basics of Sewing’ class being put on at the Youth Center, again with the hours from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
