There are many meaningful ways to participate in our democracy, and two of the most important are occurring this year, according to Congressman Jerry McNerney, who represents the ninth Congressional District that includes part of San Joaquin County.

“Every 10 years, we help decide how taxpayer dollars come back into our states and communities by taking part in a confidential Census count. In addition to the Census, we will also be making important decisions this November about who we want to lead our country, and who we will choose as our local, state, and federal representatives,” McNerney noted. “As the Census process winds down this month and we prepare for the upcoming election, many have questions about how the COVID-19 pandemic is impacting their ability to ensure they are counted in the Census and that their voices are heard this election. That’s why I’m hosting a virtual town hall on voting and the Census.”

The virtual event is scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 15 from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m., Pacific Time, with California Secretary of State Alex Padilla and Stockton Mayor Michael Tubbs joining McNerney for a discussion about these critical civic responsibilities.

Secretary Padilla will also give an informative presentation and answer some questions.
