Mark the calendar for Wednesday, Oct. 27 and plan to attend the Candidate's Night at the Escalon Library, when the community will have the chance to hear from the four local residents running for office.

There are three seats available on the Escalon City Council for the November ballot and four candidates are vying for the three seats. Incumbent Mayor Walt Murken decided not to seek reelection this year, but councilmen Ed Alves and Danny Fox are in the running. Both are seeking reelection to another four-year term. Newcomers to the race, each seeking a seat, are Kurt Danziger and Robert Swift.

The Escalon Chamber of Commerce is putting on the forum, which is scheduled from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the Ekholm Room of the library on Second Street on Oct. 27.

The format will see each candidate have one minute to introduce themselves, providing a brief glimpse into their background and qualifications for the post. Candidates will also be asked general questions and given two minutes to respond.

"We expect that all candidates for the City Council will be present, to tell the public about themselves and their views on the future of Escalon," noted a statement from the Candidates Forum Committee.

Members of the audience will have an opportunity to ask questions of the council candidates as well, with 60 seconds allotted for each answer from candidates.

The election is scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 2. Escalon holds its elections at large, with no specific areas designated for council seats. The top three vote getters in the election will win the posts.
