Escalon Unified School District board member John Largent is in some pretty outstanding company.

The Association of California School Administrators (ACSA) for Region 7, which encompasses San Joaquin, Amador, Calaveras, Tuolumne and Stanislaus counties, annually recognize individuals for their tireless efforts to make a difference with students each and every day. One award is given to an outstanding board member who promotes the success of all students. The 2012 School Board Member of the Year is Escalon's own John Largent.

"Anyone who knows Mr. Largent knows that he exemplifies this award," said EUSD Superintendent Ron Costa in making the announcement at Tuesday night's regular school board meeting.

Honoree Largent will receive the honor, presented to him at an ACSA meeting later this year.

Widely known and respected in the community, Largent has served on the Escalon Unified School Board for 30 years. He is an active proponent of all things EUSD, having helped forge and implement, along with fellow board members, the governing board's long term vision and commitment to students.

Largent has been described as having "the ability to listen, understand and respect" the opinions of the constituents of the district while maintaining his consistent core beliefs and his unwavering code of ethics.
