The 9-11 Community Moment of Silence and Prayer, observed every Sept. 11 at the Escalon Fire Station #1 on Coley Avenue, is scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 11.

Escalon Fire Chief Rick Mello said the fire district will have this ceremony each year as long as he is serving as chief, with all in the community invited to attend.

The brief ceremony begins at 9:11 a.m. in front of the firehouse at 1749 Coley and typically includes a guest speaker, a brief overview of the events of 9-11 in 2001 with the terrorist attacks on the Pentagon, the Twin Towers in New York City and the downing of a plane in Pennsylvania, short of its intended target.

A flag raising and lowering ceremony is conducted as well.

Prior to that Tuesday, Sept. 11 observance, Escalon Community Ambulance is offering its third annual Membership Appreciation pancake breakfast. The entire community is welcome to attend; come and meet the paramedics and EMTs of Escalon Community Ambulance and learn more about the service and what it provides to the community. The event is set from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Escalon Community Center on Sunday, Sept. 9. ECA members eat for free; for non-members, the cost is $5 for adults, $2 for children.
