Modesto gas prices have fallen 0.6 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $3.19/gallon Monday, according to GasBuddy’s daily survey of 201 stations. Gas prices in Modesto are 1.6 cents per gallon lower than a month ago and stand 13.9 cents per gallon higher than a year ago.

According to GasBuddy price reports, the cheapest station in Modesto was priced at $2.89/gallon on Feb. 24 while the most expensive was $3.79, a difference of 90.0 cents per gallon. The lowest price in the state on Feb. 24 was $2.67 while the highest was $4.89, a difference of $2.22/gallon. The cheapest price in the entire country on Monday stood at $1.75/gallon while the most expensive was $99.90, a difference of $98.15/gallon.

The national average price of gasoline has risen 2.4 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $2.47. The national average is down 6.4 cents per gallon from a month ago and stands 7.3 cents per gallon higher than a year ago.

Neighboring areas and their current gas prices include: Stockton - $3.21, down 4.3 cents per gallon from last week’s $3.25; Oakland - $3.48, down 1.9 cents from $3.50; and San Jose - $3.42, down 1.6 cents per gallon from last week’s $3.43/gallon.

“Over the last decade, the national average typically begins its seasonal rise on February 9, lasting until May 2, during which the average rise is 54 cents per gallon,” said Patrick DeHaan, head of petroleum analysis for GasBuddy. “It’s nearly guaranteed that prices will be higher by April and May, but beyond that, the timing remains completely unknown, as does how the coronavirus will threaten overall gasoline demand.”
