October will feature some well-known films, playing at the State Theatre in Modesto, with a couple of ‘way back’ comedic offerings and a science fiction classic.
‘Death Becomes Her’ is the first to show, set for 5 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 6. Directed by Robert Zemeckis, the film runs 104 minutes and is rated PG-13. Starring Adam Storke, Alaina Reed Hall, Bruce Willis, Goldie Hawn, Ian Ogilvy, Isabella Rossellini, Mary Ellen Trainor, Meryl Streep, Michelle Johnson and Nancy Fish.
Madeline is married to Ernest, who was once arch-rival Helen’s fiancé. After recovering from a mental breakdown, Helen vows to kill Madeline and steal back Ernest. Unfortunately for everyone, the introduction of a magic potion causes things to be a great deal more complicated than a mere murder plot.
On Wednesday, Oct. 9 at 7 p.m., enjoy the Halloween-themed ‘Hocus Pocus’ from director Kenny Ortega, rated PG and running 96 minutes. Starring Amanda Shepherd, Bette Midler, Kathy Najimy, Larry Bagby, Omri Katz, Sarah Jessica Parker, Stephanie Faracy, Thora Birch, Tobias Jelinek, Vinessa Shaw.
After 300 years of slumber, three sister witches are accidentally resurrected in Salem on Halloween night, and it us up to three kids and their newfound feline friend to put an end to the witches’ reign of terror once and for all.
A science fiction classic, take time to enjoy ‘2001: A Space Odyssey’ on Wednesday, Oct. 16 at 7 p.m., directed by Stanley Kubrick. Rated G, the film runs 139 minutes. Starring: Daniel Richter, Douglas Rain, Gary Lockwood, Keir Dullea, William Sylvester.
