MODESTO — Small, intimate, cozy, beautiful and historical – that is the little auditorium in the basement of the McHenry Museum.
Red Tie Arts is turning it into an interesting little jazz club with a monthly schedule of great music for the lucky 89 people who can join in for the benefit concerts.
Red Tie Arts (RTA), best known for their wildly successful summer concert presentations at Lucca Winery in Ripon, will be hosting a monthly concert series concentrating on truly accomplished duos, trios and quartets, mostly from the San Francisco area. They will feature a Spanish guitar soloist in January, followed by music of Paris and more.
Red Tie Arts is a non-profit organization formed three years ago to help fund underprivileged children who show great promise and talent in the arts. RTA works with Modesto City Schools, Stanislaus County School District, Sylvan School District and Ripon School District. Right now, they only fund music but as their coffers swell, they will move into funding children’s’ dance, visual art, and theater studies.
Jessie Christian Hendricks — a Spanish guitar soloist — will be on stage Saturday, Jan. 19, at the McHenry Museum, 1402 J St., Modesto Doors open at 6:30 p.m. with the show at 7:30 p.m.
“Self-taught, I became intrigued with the classical guitar many years ago,” Hendricks said. “I practiced until I had a working knowledge of the guitar. Throughout my formidable years, I studied and traveled abroad, spending a significant amount of time in Italy. It was there where I discovered the amazing talents of numerous street musicians who performed amazing music and acts on the streets of Florence. I soon made friends with several of these true artists.
“Taking in the extraordinary talents of these artists, I set upon a path of self-discovery. My goal was to make a job out of traveling and performing my music for special events. Over the past 15 years I have been lucky to travel and perform all over California,” Hendricks continued. “My unique and exciting blend of Spanish Flamenco, Latin Rhythms and World Percussion has been a welcomed and refreshing addition to so many events. As I continue to grow and explore new sounds and possibilities I hope you get a chance to listen and enjoy this work I love so much!”
