MURPHYS — The 22nd Annual Ironstone Concours d'Elegance will be held Saturday, Sept. 22, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Ironstone Vineyards, 1894 Six Mile Road

Ironstone Concours d'Elegance – the annual antique and classic car show – will take place at the beautiful grounds of Ironstone Vineyards in the gold country of the Sierra Nevadas. Concours d'Elegance features over 300 antique and classic cars, as well as vintage trailers and motorcycles.

More than 3,000 visitors enjoy the beauty of the automobiles in the ambiance of the stunning landscape on the grounds of Ironstone Vineyards, located at 1894 Six Mile Road in Murphys, California. General admission tickets are

$25 per person. Children under 14 are admitted free.

Pre-war racecars are rare and not often seen by the public outside of automotive museums. Guests of the Ironstone Concours will not only see these incredible machines but also be able to chat with owners, learn about the early racing era and even be able to take a ride in the cars during Concours. Many of the early racecars, dating back to the early 1900s (Pre-World War I) were built with wooden wheels and frames, as well as massive engines and poor brakes. These cars were completely mechanical, requiring a rider, known as a “Mechanician,” to pump fuel and oil tanks, as well as fix the car on the course.

Benz, Fiat, Packard and Stutz are just a few names of the pre-war era that would eventually develop into major manufacturers.

Many of these early cars formed the foundation for racing in America. The majority of racing took place in California, where thousands of people would come to see new technology. Cars like the 1909 Locomobile that raced in the COBE Cup and the 1911 National that raced at the first Indy 500 will be shown at Ironstone Concours.

Twenty-one years ago, John and Gail Kautz created Concours d'Elegance. As farmers and vintners, they envisioned an event that would benefit young people involved in agriculture, notably 4-H Clubs, Future Farmers of America and the California State Fair Scholarship Fund. From that initial idea, the Ironstone Concours d'Elegance Foundation has raised more than $700,000 since its inception. In 2013, through the proceeds of Concours d'Elegance, a

$130,000 pledge was completed to assist in the development of the Future Farmers of America State Headquarters
