There are plenty of opportunities to enjoy a relaxing and festive trip along the railroad tracks outside Oakdale, with the Magical Christmas Train once again rolling.
The Sierra Railroad in Oakdale has hosted the Christmas Train event each November and December since 2008 and while the Saturday after Thanksgiving is the kickoff, there are multiple trips throughout December.
“We run the first weekend after Thanksgiving and go every Friday, Saturday and Sunday for the next couple of weekends, then the week of Christmas we also add Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday trains,” said Sierra Railroad marketing team member Andrew McDaniel.
In Oakdale, the train boards at 330 S. Sierra Ave., and each trip includes music, holiday refreshments, visits with Santa and more.
The Magical Christmas Train trip runs for 90 minutes and all are encouraged to come in pajamas, adding to the special feel of the holiday ride.
With cookies, hot chocolate in a souvenir tumbler and the chance for some serious face time with Santa Claus himself, McDaniel said there’s a lot to love about the event.
Tickets are $34 for children, $44 for adults for the 90-minute trip, including the refreshments and souvenir cup. McDaniel said the Magical Christmas Train is almost always a sellout and they can add more trips if necessary.
Scheduled trips include: Fridays, Dec. 4 at 9 a.m., Dec. 11 and 18 at 6:30 p.m.; Saturdays, Dec. 5 and 12 at 3 p.m. and 6 p.m., Dec. 19 at noon, 3 p.m. and 6 p.m.; Sundays, Dec. 6, 13 and 20 at 3 p.m. and 6 p.m.
