SONORA — Sierra Rep is bringing Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella to the East Sonora Theatre.

Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella is the new Broadway adaptation of the classic musical.

This classic tale features Rodgers & Hammerstein's most beloved songs, including “In My Own Little Corner,” “Impossible/It's Possible” and “Ten Minutes Ago,” alongside an up-to-date, hilarious and romantic libretto by Tony Award nominee Douglas Carter Beane.

This hilarious and romantic Cinderella combines the story's classic elements - glass slippers, pumpkin, and a beautiful ball along with some surprising twists. It is a sumptuous traditional fairy tale treat for the entire family.

“There is so much joy all around our theatre campus as we prepare for Cinderella,” said Jerry Lee, SRT’s Artistic Director. “This has always been my favorite story. Like so many people, I grew up with the Lesley Ann Warren and Brandy versions of this musical. To me, it was pure magic. Simple, elegant, and funny. It’s been my goal through this rehearsal process to recapture those feelings of enchantment and delight that’s makes this story so special. There is magic and action for boys and girls and comedy and romance for adults.”

The cast includes Camryn Elias, Miguel Ragel Wilson, Madeline Young, Brenda O’Brien, Jodi Vaccaro, Jackie Thompson, Ty Smith, Christopher Michael, Mateo Deangelo, Quinn Igoe, Bree Igoe, Linda Dorsett, Franca Rosenblatt, Mia Mekjian, Ella C. Gordon, Kevin T. Mazur, Robert Frederick Taylor, and Alex Figueroa.

The creative team includes Whitney Lehn Meltz (Set Design), Andrew Burns (Costume Design), Jonnie Painter (Lighting Design), Tatiana Covington-Parra (Sound Design), Julian Kelly (Projection Design), and stage manager Maggie Braun.

Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella is directed by Jerry Lee, choreographed by Rebecca Frazier, and musically directed by Patrick Burns.

Sierra Rep’s season sponsors are Sonora Area Foundation and John and June Rogers.

This production is appropriate for all ages.

Originally presented on television in 1957 starring Julie Andrews, Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella was the most widely viewed program in the history of the medium. Its recreation in 1965 starring Lesley Ann Warren was no less successful in transporting a new generation to the miraculous kingdom of dreams-come-true, and so was a second remake in 1997, which starred Brandy as Cinderella and Whitney Houston as her Fairy Godmother.

The Broadway musical version opened on Broadway in 2013.
