Meanwhile, members of the EHS football program are staying busy this summer as well.

“Football has been to the Fresno State Tournament so far this summer, we did really well,” Beam said.

The team stacked up several wins in pool play and had one loss overall, playing against Tulare Union, Madera, Mountain House, Templeton and San Joaquin Memorial.

“We lost to Madera in the bracket round on the last play of the game,” said Beam. “Really happy with how our kids battled and competed. Many times, we gave up size and speed but the boys play really well.”

He noted several Cougars that had “outstanding tournaments” including Chase Cummings, Carter Yates, Logan Huebner, K’Oz Castro, Luca Cerasi and Dylan Ball.

“Varsity plays in the Downey Tournament this Friday night (June 20) and JV plays in that tournament on Saturday,” Beam added. “We play in our final tournament on June 27 at UC Davis.”

Escalon’s fall football schedule has the teams suiting up for a scrimmage against Gregori, on the road, on Friday, Aug. 15 with the freshmen and JV at 5 p.m., varsity at 7 p.m.

On Friday, Aug. 22, the JV and varsity Cougars will welcome the Rodriguez Mustangs to Engel Field for the preseason opener, JV at 5 p.m., varsity at 7 p.m.
