Escalon’s varsity volleyball girls opened up their week with a 3-1 win over rival Hughson in Trans-Valley League play and also notched a non-league victory over Enochs.

They hosted Hughson on Sept. 16, with scores of 25-21, 11-25, 25-14, 25-17.

“It was such a good team win for us, everyone played a part and I’m so proud of our girls for walking away with that first league win,” head coach Shay Beam said. “Emma Strong had three aces and 14 kills, Chloe Green had 16 and freshman Avery Bartelink had her best game so far with six kills, two aces and three blocks.”

Strong, Emma Rangel and Brynn Caton each were in double digits in digs.

“Our defense is really starting to shine and set us apart a little bit,” noted Beam.

On Sept. 17, it was a sweep over Enochs for the host Lady Cougars, 25-14, 25-15, 25-21.

“Against Enochs everyone got to have their moment on the court,” the coach said of the non-league action. “Setter Aniston Hunt had eight kills and 26 assists, Brynn Caton had 12 digs and two aces. Emma Strong had eight kills, Payton Houser Keaton had seven and Marissa Terry and Payton Abbott had five each.”

JV/Freshman

For the JV girls, it was a week where they won both games, first taking down Hughson in league play and then defeating Enochs.

Against Hughson, it was a 25-12, 18-25, 18-16 battle, with Escalon coming out on top.

“Kinsley Villines had two aces, Peyton Jacobs had 15 assists,” noted head coach Alyssa Cogburn. “Arie Paulsen had seven kills and Kendall Fox had nine digs.”

Back on the court the next day, it was a straight sets win over Enochs on Sept. 17, 25-22, 25-21.

Fox had four aces in the contest, Jacobs notched eight assists. Paulsen had five kills and Ronni Keo added five digs.

It was also a two-win week for the freshmen, as they first defeated Hughson on Sept. 16 by a 25-11, 25-17 final.

Ryan Killingsworth had seven digs and Aubrey Anderson-Castro had 10 assists. Lainie Harris had six aces.

“The team played very clean volleyball with minimal errors,” noted head coach Nicole Bianchi.

Hosting Enochs on Sept. 17, Escalon fell in the opening set 18-25 but came back to win the next two, 26-24, 18-16 to get the win.

“Ryan Killingsworth had a great set two and set three serve receive as well as three assists,” said Bianchi. “Aubrey Anderson-Castro had 22 assists and 12 digs.”

Also, Sandi Rowe had six kills and Harris came away with 15 kills.

“Set one against Enochs consisted of way too many errors, but the team battled back and minimized those errors in set two and set three,” Bianchi explained. “They really came together and played as a team to earn the win.”

The squads will be back in action on the home court Thursday, Sept. 25, hosting Ripon Christian.
