Baseball posts wins

Kicking off their season with some big wins, the Escalon varsity baseball team put four victories on the books this past week. They were at Beyer and took a 6-3 decision from the Patriots, then defeated Grace Davis by a 13-2 final. In a doubleheader against Linden at home on Friday, March 6, the varsity Cougars won 16-10 and 12-3.

“Zach Wells had a very big week,” said head coach Gino Franceschetti. “He was 7-for-11 with five RBI and had a good pitching outing against Linden in game one.”

Also, Wyatt Riesenbeck went 6-for-10 for the week, driving in seven runs.

“We have had good pitching performances from all our pitchers, Brody Abbott, Lorenzo Teixeira, Ethan Haskin, Andrew Armosino and Aiden Ramirez,” Franceschetti said. “We are currently 7-2 on the year.”

The boys will have two games as Trans-Valley League play gets underway this week, first traveling to Sonora and then hosting the Wildcats in Escalon for a Friday, March 13 contest.
