Two games this week both were tough losses for Escalon’s varsity soccer boys.

Head coach Paul Silva said they were at Sonora to start the week on Wednesday, Jan. 7 and fell by a 4-2 final.

“We were losing 1-0 at halftime. Opened the second half with two goals from Co Northcutt to take a 2-1 lead, only to concede three goals in quick succession,” Silva explained. “We did a poor job maintaining our defensive structure to see out the game.”

Back on the home pitch Friday, Hilmar came to town and went home with a 3-1 victory in hand.

“We went down a score early in the first half but tied the game midway through the first half with a goal from Co Northcutt,” Silva added of the senior who went on a scoring streak this week. “The game stayed 1-1 until late in the second half when we conceded two goals.”

The Yellowjackets were able to get the win, despite the Cougars playing hard.

“Disappointed with the result as we played well enough to win but just couldn’t convert chances into goals,” Silva said.

They are scheduled to host Hughson on Jan. 14 for their only game this week.

“Assists came from Fidel Segura and Miguel Arce with one each, Marcus Gonzalez with two,” Rodriguez said.

Friday the JV boys were at home to host Hilmar and got the league win by a 3-1 final.

“More of a close game with a handful of missed opportunities but notching a win,” said Rodriguez.

Scoring the goals against Hilmar were Marcus Gonzalez, Angel Rodriguez and Brandon Beltran, with Omar Pantoja and Marcus Gonzalez notching the assists.
