September brings cross country TVL competition

Members of the Escalon High School cross country team traveled for its first Trans-Valley League meet of the fall season on Sept. 13. The event was hosted at River Bluff Regional Park in Ceres.

Head coach Arend Jones said sophomore Alexander Girardi paced the varsity boys team, finishing with a time of 20:12.

Junior Victoria Calderon was top finisher for the varsity girls, running the course in 24:17.

In the Junior Varsity races, freshman Alden Schultz finished with a time of 13:12 for the two-mile race. Junior Ashley Flores paced the Escalon JV girls with a time of 20:28.

“This coming Saturday, on Sept. 20, the Cougars will be up at Frogtown Calaveras Fairgrounds for one of the largest and most difficult meets of the season,” said Jones. “Then we go to Sonora on Sept. 24 for the second TVL meet at Wildcat Ranch.”
