The Escalon High School cross country team headed to the Calaveras County Fairgrounds for the Frogtown Invitational this past weekend, hitting the course there on Saturday, Sept. 20.
“This is one of the largest and most difficult competitions in the area,” said head coach Arend Jones. “Twenty-five Escalon athletes competed.”
In the two-mile sophomore boys race, Escalon had three competitors.
“They all had responsible times, but Mateo Estrada finished first with a time of 14:55,” said Jones.
Both the boys and girls JV and varsity teams ran a three-mile race.
In the JV boys race, said Jones, freshman Easton Beneux finished first for Escalon and in the Top 40 with a time of 22:22. In the JV girls race it was Brooklyn Sparacino with a ninth place overall finish in 28:37.
“In the boys varsity race Rigoberto Ramirez finished first for Escalon with a time of 20:51,” Jones said.
And in the girls varsity race, it was junior Victoria Calderon first for Escalon and finishing in the top 30 with a time of 23:19 on the Frogtown course.
“Most of the team had their best time this season, which is quite an accomplishment for such a difficult course,” Jones added.
The team gets back to Trans-Valley League action this week, taking part in the second TVL meet, on the road at Wildcat Ranch in Sonora.
