Runners hit 10k, 5k course for Park Fete event

The top male and female finisher in Escalon’s 10k Park Fete run were Jonathan Palafox and Emma-Lynn Hogan. Palafox, 17, ran the course in Escalon in 42:42 on Saturday, July 26. Hogan, who was fourth overall, was the first-place female finisher and the 16-year-old ran the race in 45:33.

Second male across the line in the 10k was Blake Mynear, third was Juan Verduzco and they also finished second and third overall in the race. Second female across the line was Kary Tyler-Davis, 11th overall and third was Christina Moscato, taking 12th overall.

Escalon City Manager Jaylen French also took part in the 10k and was the eighth-place overall finisher, turning in a time of 49:28.

Twenty-one runners suited up for the 10k.

For the 5k race, it was 14-year-old Porter Petty crossing the line as the first male and first overall finisher, running the course in 17:36 and 18-year-old Sophia Lopes took the top female honor, in 24:04, second place overall.

Rounding out the top three males were Logan Petty at number two, third overall; and J.R. Mintz at number three, fourth overall.

Destiny Reyes was the second female across the line in the 5k, seventh overall; and Lynda Hendley was number three, taking ninth place overall honors.

A total of 30 runners took part in the 5k; the final two finishers were Bob Tennent, coming in at number 29 in 41:12 – at 79 years old – and Karen Diekmeyer was number 30 across the line, at 84 years old, covering the course in 56:29.

Both the 5k and 10k courses were on flat, paved streets, taking off from and returning to El Portal Middle School on First Street. There were some water stations along the way, with spectators also there to cheer on the runners.

This year’s ‘medals’ were made of wood, as the Park Fete had a Western theme. EscalonFit was the primary sponsor of the run, working in cooperation with On Your Mark Events, which handled the timekeeping and assisted with the logistics of the races.
