In their season finale, 10 members of the Escalon Wrestling Club traveled to the youth wrestling State Tournament at Clovis East High School in Clovis.
The competition was hosted Saturday and Sunday, March 21 and 22. At the tournament, first place finishers earned trophies and second through eighth place wrestlers in the various age divisions and weight classes earned plaques for their efforts in the SCWAY – State of California Wrestling Association for Youth – state meet.
Three competitors from Escalon earned plaques, paced by a fourth place effort from Kennedy Van Dyk in the 12u girls 81-pound bracket. Maximus Watson took seventh at 66 pounds in the 6u division and Josiah Freitas placed eighth at 47 pounds in the 6u division.
Also taking the mats for Escalon at the competition, but not placing, were: Steven Saunders, 6u, 44 pounds; Austin Sanchez, 10u, 80 pounds and Keegan Lewellen, 10u, 109 pounds; Garrett Gaines and Brody Gentry, both 12u, 80 pounds; Anthony Teicheira, 15u, 108 pounds; and Aiden Yates-Perreira, 15u, 156 pounds.
