Take The Time To Be Thankful
Time Out 11-26-25

As we all prepare to gather around the table and give thanks this Thanksgiving, it is yet again a time to reflect on what we are thankful for.

Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday; as it brings family, football, the big Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade, food and awesome weather. I’m not going to lie, though; this year is a little different for me. The year 2025 has been a real struggle for me and the passion I have for the holiday seems to be lightened. The last several months have been a challenge. This year I have lost multiple people who meant so much to me; my mentor passed away in the spring, my childhood hero passed away in the summer, and a close friend of mine passed away just a few days prior to me putting this column together. Professionally, health (both physical and mental), personal life and financially have all taken a hit. When things pile up it is hard to maintain positivity, let alone be thankful.

However, over the last few days, I have taken time to reflect and search for my blessings. It was a challenge but I managed. With all of the negative that has happened, I know that I can not turn a blind eye to the blessings I have had this year as well. I donated blood for the first time in about 15 years. I used to do it often but when I moved to Tennessee in 2010, I stopped doing it. A few weeks ago, I took the time and did it. A wonderful way to help others out this holiday season and made me feel good about doing it.

My oldest son is thriving in school. The turnaround in his math has been amazing and I am very proud of him. Recently he earned multiple awards for the semester and he was so happy to tell us about it. He is improving each day and his attitude towards school and learning has been very positive.

My youngest son continues to grow by the second. I can not believe he will be starting school next year and that we signed him up for T-ball already. Seems like we just brought him home from the hospital yesterday. His growth and personality continue at a rapid pace. His passion for professional wrestling video games reminds me a lot of myself when I was his age. It is something we bond over. He also sits down and watches football with me so that is an enjoyable part of each week as well.

So, when it is time to sit down at the dinner table on Thanksgiving Day, I will look around at those that surround me. That is the true blessing. I will forever be thankful for those who are there and reminisce about the wonderful times and memories I built with those who are no longer with us.

Only time will tell what 2026 has in store for me but I know I will continue to battle through things and find that balance of positivity again.
