Marvin E. "Grandpa" Plass, 85, passed away on Thursday, Feb. 26 at Memorial Medical Center in Modesto, just a few days shy of his 86th birthday.

Born on March 3, 1923, he was a resident of Modesto where he was owner of Plass Carpet Cleaning. Before moving to Modesto 45 years ago he lived in Napa where he owned a Bakery and Donut Shop.

He was a veteran of the Army and enjoyed being a dog trainer for the military. He will be remembered as a man who loved his family and was a hard worker with a positive attitude who loved to gamble and tell jokes.

Survivors include his stepchildren, Nick and Judy Bellino of Oakdale and Vicky and Gary Nomelli of Waterford; his grandchildren Frank and Cathleen Bellino of Escalon, Kim Solario of Escalon, Tina and Paul Rampoldi of San Diego, Tony and Jeanah Nomelli of Modesto and Vince Nomelli of Modesto; nine great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 38 years, Rosa, in 2003; his parents and his two sisters and brother.

Memorial service will be on Wednesday, March 4 at 10 a.m. at Deegan Funeral Chapel in Escalon with his burial following at St. John's Cemetery in Escalon.
