Arthur George Sanguinetti, 83, of Stockton, California, passed away peacefully on December 1, 2025. Known to many friends and family as “Bud”, he was born in Stockton on August 10, 1942, the son of the late James “Bud” George Sanguinetti and Dorothy Dossey Sanguinetti, also native Stocktonians. He attended St. Mary’s High School, Santa Clara University, studying abroad in Rome for a year, and earned his MA at the University of California, Berkeley.
Since he was a boy, Art “Bud” was a lover of history, and naturally chose the profession of teaching where he could share that passion with his students. He taught 37 years at Escalon High School. Working with these young adults was one thing that he treasured most in his life. Recently, he was inducted into the Escalon Unified School District’s Hall of Fame.
Throughout his life, Art “Bud” engaged in many other activities. He loved spending time in the Sierra Nevada Mountains and also taking many trips with his wife, Sherri. He engaged in historical archaeology projects in Virginia for many summers. He enjoyed going to the Haggin Museum as a child, and as an adult was a docent and served on the Board of Trustees. He was active in the Boy Scouts, becoming an Eagle Scout of which he was very proud. Art “Bud” credits this achievement with helping him when he was sent to Vietnam. He served in the 1st Cavalry Division, from 1968-1969. He was decorated with, among other things, the Air Medal, and the Bronze Star with oak leaf cluster and a “V” for valor.
He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Sherri Soulsby Sanguinetti; his brother, William (Debby) Sanguinetti; his brothers-in-law, Richard (Patricia) Soulsby and Kevin (Debi) Soulsby, and his sister-in-law, Wendy Soulsby Spalsbury. Art “Bud” will be deeply missed by his family, among them being numerous nephews, nieces, and their families. He will probably be best remembered by his family and friends for his great love of history, his gift of the “gab” and storytelling, his sense of humor, and his love of country and family.
A Memorial Service will be held at: DeYoung Shoreline Chapel (7676 Shoreline Drive, Stockton), on Monday, January 5, 2026 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Haggin Museum, Stockton, or the Escalon Historical Society Museum.
