Longtime Escalon resident Alfred ‘Al’ Bellinger, 84, passed away on October 29, 2025.
He was born on September 20, 1941 in Akron, Ohio, to John and Edith Bellinger.
He is survived by his wife, Eva, of Escalon; sister, Mary Ann Jones of Doylestown, OH; son Michael Bellinger (Michelle) of San Andreas; and son David Bellinger (Cindy) of Escalon; and grandsons Drew and Jacob Bellinger of Escalon.
Al was a loving husband; he and Eva were married for 59½ years.
He served in the U.S. Navy, spending five years aboard the USS Midway from 1960 to 1965. He was a Communications Specialist.
An active member of the Escalon American Legion – Gustafson-Thompson Post 263, he was currently serving as the Sergeant-at-Arms. Al also was an ambulance volunteer EMT in the 1980’s, served on the Escalon Recreation Commission for over 20 years, was a youth wrestling coach and Boosters Club president, a Little League coach, a proud father to Michael and David, and a proud grandfather to Drew and Jacob Bellinger.
He also worked more than 20 years at Western Union as a technician, from 1965 to 1987 and worked for Escalon Unified School District in various positions for 16 years, from 1987 to 2003. He loved driving the bus to student’s sporting events, even stopping for food late at night so the kids could get a late-night snack (even though he “might” be breaking the rules!)
He loved RV’ing with his wife Eva and some of their closest friends for over 30 years in various trailers and motorhomes. Some of their fondest adventure memories were of camping.
Services at a later date.
