The Winter Reading Program continues at the Escalon Branch Library through Saturday, Jan. 31, and that’s just one of the events being offered at the local library, 1540 Second Street.
Part of the Stockton-San Joaquin Library System, Escalon library is open Monday and Wednesday, 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.; Tuesday, 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.; Thursday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Friday, 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.; Saturday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Winter Reading Club is taking place now in all branches of the county library system. Reading logs can be picked up at the local library branch, filled out once the required number of books are read, and returned for prizes.
Meanwhile, the first and third Wednesdays of the month, the Hooked on Crochet Class is open to all interested, hosted at the library from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
The class is recommended for those ages 10 and up, but all ages are welcome. Library officials said this is a great way to learn new techniques, share projects and spend some time visiting with fellow crochet enthusiasts. You can bring in your own project or start a new one with the free supplies available at the library.
Looking ahead to February, closures are due on successive Mondays: Feb. 9 for Lincoln’s birthday and Feb. 16 for Presidents’ Day.
There are also a couple of special programs during February as well, with a Family Pizza and Paint Date set for Thursday, Feb. 5 from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
The event will feature pizza to eat and a chance for youngsters, ages six and up, to get creative with a fun family Valentine’s Day themed painting activity. Registration is required, with the registration period opening on Jan. 22.
Family Bingo is set for Thursday, Feb. 12 from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m., with no registration required. This is a drop-in program for all ages, with kids, parents, caregivers and grandparents all welcome. Prizes available while supplies last.
Also, the non-profit Friends of the Escalon Library is always looking for new members. Annual membership is $30 for businesses, $25 for a family, $10 for an individual. Kid’s Club membership is $10 per child. The group also accepts cash donations or gently used books for its used book sale. The organization helps support the library in many ways, from providing materials to helping finance special library programs throughout the year.
The next meeting of the Friends of the Escalon Library is scheduled for Friday, Feb. 20 at 9 a.m. at the library; all are welcome.
