Escalon police officers responded to a Saturday night disturbance at a business on Main Street, April 4, which resulted in an arrest and several weapons being confiscated.

The call came in shortly after 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. Officers responded to a report of a disturbance at the business in the downtown area, where a subject had reportedly made threats towards the business. The reporting party stated a male subject had become verbally aggressive toward staff and may have been accessing firearms in his vehicle nearby.

Officers quickly located the subject nearby, walking away from his vehicle, and conducted an investigation. The individual admitted to being in possession of multiple firearms in the vehicle, which were secured by Escalon officers without further incident.

The suspect, identified as Patrick Blum, 58, of Modesto, was booked into the San Joaquin County Jail on weapons charges, criminal threats, and disorderly conduct.

“There were some felony charges,” Escalon Police Chief Anthony Hardgraves said, noting that Blum’s bail in the Escalon incident was set at $155,000.

Charges included felony carry a concealed weapon in vehicle, two counts; and felony threaten a crime with intent to terrorize.

Blum was scheduled to be in court in Manteca on Tuesday afternoon, April 7 for his next appearance.
