Union, Confederate troops head out to Knights Ferry
Knights Ferry

A weekend trip to Knights Ferry will be a way to step back in history, as the American Civil War Association brings its annual Civil War Reenactment to the Ferry on Saturday and Sunday, March 21 and 22.

The annual “clash of blue and gray” will feature four different battle times. Saturday, March 21 the battles will be staged at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m.; Sunday, March 22 battle times are 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.

Battles will take place on the trails and hilly areas surrounding the Stanislaus River near the historic covered bridge, with attendees encouraged to find a spot to settle in on the hillside above the river to watch the action. There will be cannons and authentic guns used as part of the battle scenes.

In between the battles, soldiers have their camps set up and are available to share historical information and showcase what the life of a soldier in the Civil War days was like.

The camps are open at 9 a.m. both days of the weekend for touring; they close at 5 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday.

Along with the battles and chance to tour the camps, there will be different activities, music and the Knights Ferry Community Club will host its annual Spaghetti Dinner Fundraiser on Saturday night at the clubhouse on Main Street.

Dinner hours are 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.; tickets are $10 and will be available at the door.
