What authorities are describing as a murder-suicide occurred on River Road, off Santa Fe, in Escalon late afternoon Friday, June 13.

San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Department personnel, along with Escalon Fire and Escalon Police, all responded to the scene.

The fire department was called to stage outside the home in the 28000 block of East River Road, near Burwood Cemetery, after police received a call of possible shots fired.

Escalon Police also responded to assist at the request of the sheriff’s department, with responding units from the various departments arriving on scene shortly before 6 p.m. Friday.

“We can confirm it is a murder-suicide and our deputies were the first to arrive,” said sheriff’s department Public Information Officer Heather Brent.

As far as victim names or the circumstances surrounding the incident, Brent noted that the department “can’t release any of that” as it is “an ongoing investigation.”

She said the San Joaquin County Coroner’s Office would be the agency to release identities of the deceased in the case, but that information was not available by press time.
