Crews have been keeping up a steady pace on the various campuses in the Escalon Unified School District this summer, with a number of general maintenance and special projects. Each site is getting a deep cleaning of all rooms, including the floors getting stripped and waxed, and carpets are being shampooed.
The district’s Director of Maintenance, Operations and Transportation, John Lial, provided a site-by-site list of the other work being done.
Escalon High School
Food Science Classroom construction is underway; this will see a state-of-the-art classroom being made available to students in the food science curriculum.
“This is actually (at the site of) the old wood shop classroom,” Lial explained of the new classroom, noting that the wood shop was torn down to the bare studs and the floor removed “in order to create the space” for the brand-new food science lab/classroom.
New sinks have been installed in both art classrooms.
Gym floors have been cleaned and polished.
The football field has been sprayed to kill off the Rye grass to allow the Bermuda to thrive and be ready for the playing season.
El Portal Middle School
New HVAC unit in room 28.
Getting a new sink installed in room 15 since it will be a science classroom.
“Multi-Purpose Room facelift to start soon,” Lial said, planning for polished concrete floors, a new suspended ceiling, all new LED lighting, and a fresh coat of paint.
Grounds crew has been working on irrigation and will be doing some work on the field with the turf renovator to help level out the grass area.
Gym floors have been cleaned and polished.
Dent Elementary School
“Grounds crew is working on the playing field with our turf renovator and dragging some dirt to get that playing surface in better shape,” said Lial.
Renovation is scheduled to start soon in the old Dent office/library building with installation of new lighting, some new flooring, and a fresh coat of paint.
Van Allen Elementary School
“Custodial staff has been working hard to get the classrooms cleaned up and ready for the start of school,” Lial noted. “We have had lots of irrigation issues and believe we finally have them all dialed in and working properly again.”
Also, re-seeding of the “butterfly” field area at the school.
Farmington Elementary School
Major tree work done on campus to clean up a lot of dead branches and mistletoe and removal of a few trees that were dead.
“We are looking to plant a few new trees to replace the ones we had removed,” said Lial.
Collegeville Elementary School
Walkway in front of rooms 3-5 has been replaced due to major dry rot damage.
Classroom addition is going on and Lial noted they “are planning on opening the school year in the new rooms.”
Gateway Charter Academy
The shade structure/exterior improvements project is going out to bid.
