Although we all know that death is inevitable, it is probably the one life event that we don’t want to think about, let alone prepare for. Paradoxically most of us don’t want to place burdens on those we leave behind to take care of the end of life matters we leave unresolved. To this end, the American Association of University Women (AAUW), Oakdale, Riverbank, Escalon Branch has invited a panel of professionals to speak about how we can be proactive in preparing for life’s final chapter. This event, open to the public, will be held on Thursday, March 12 beginning at 6 p.m., in the community room of the Escalon Library at 1540 Second St., in Escalon.
Amy Abid Jeffries, an attorney with the law firm of Gianelli, Friedman, Jeffries and McKernan, will discuss legal concerns including estate planning, probate and trusts. A staff member from Community Hospice & Health Services will talk about the compassionate programs and services available to patients and families in the region. Attendees will learn about the benefits of hospice care, including comfort-focused support, personalized care plans, and resources designed to walk alongside families during serious illness. AAUW-ORE member, Carolyn O’Neal, a retired social worker and bereavement counselor will focus on bereavement and dealing with grief after the death of a loved one. There is no charge to attend this AAUW Community Service program.
