The next two Saturdays will be busy ones in Escalon; Sept. 13 offers the annual Escalon Lions Club Autumn Cruise and the Saron Lutheran Church Bunco Night fundraiser, while Sept. 20 will see the annual Escalon Chamber of Commerce Wine & Brew Stroll.
For the Lions Club, this year will be the 29th annual Autumn Cruise Car Show and it will be staged in and around the city’s Main Street Park downtown, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 13.
Hundreds of classic car enthusiasts will come into town to enjoy looking at the hundreds of classic automobiles, trucks and the occasional motorcycle on display.
The Escalon American Legion will also host a breakfast at the Legion Hall at 1531 Second St., from 7 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., to help kick off the day. Tickets will be available for $10 at the door.
Trophies are presented in a number of categories at the Autumn Cruise and the day also features music, food, vendors, raffle drawings, a show and shine and more, with a lunch available for purchase from the Lions Club.
Later that evening, Saron Lutheran Church at 1742 North St., Escalon, will be the site for the annual Bunco Fundraiser, starting with a baked potato bar dinner at 4:30 p.m., and bunco games beginning at 6 p.m.
All proceeds from fundraiser go to the Escalon Ministerial Association to provide food vouchers for those in need during the holidays. Tickets are $25 per person and include dinner and bunco. Tickets are available from 9 a.m. until noon at Saron Lutheran Church and may also be purchased at the door that night, but organizers are asking people to call the church at 209-838-7695 if they intend to purchase at the door to help with count for planning food purchases.
Next week, on the schedule for Saturday, Sept. 20, those 21 and older can enjoy an evening out, as the Escalon Chamber of Commerce hosts its popular Wine & Brew Stroll. Hosted downtown in the Main Street Park area, the stroll runs from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.; general admission tickets are $45 per person and VIP tickets are $65 per person.
The VIP tickets include an exclusive area with special food and drinks along with air conditioning.
Organizers said the event is shaping up well, with plenty of local and regional wineries and breweries lined up to pour, in addition to a number of foods being paired with the wine and beer.
