Sales winding down at local Rite Aid store
Closed sign

After months of speculation – and dwindling stock on the shelves – the ‘Going Out Of Business’ sale has been on for a few weeks now at the Rite Aid in Escalon, at 1710 California.

Escalon City Manager Jaylen French confirmed that the doors are scheduled to close for the final time later this month.

“We have been notified that the last day for Pharmacy operations was June 29 (Sunday) and that the store will remain open until July 20, 2025,” French noted. “We understand that pharmacy prescriptions have been transferred to other providers.”

The building is privately owned; Rite Aid previously was located along Jackson Avenue, and that former building, at 2135 Jackson, now houses the Heck of a Deal Mercantile business.

Rite Aid made the move to the California Street site, moving in to a brand-new store, several years ago.

“The future use of the building will depend on Rite Aid’s Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings and whether they sell this location to a competitor business or liquidate the location over time,” French added.

He said while the city has no official say on what happens, he expects they will stay attuned to the situation.

“We certainly desire for the building to be filled as soon as possible, and will do anything that we can to help in this process,” said French.

Two stores in neighboring Oakdale are also going out of business, with closures anticipated later this summer, one in the 1400 block of East F Street and the other on the opposite end of town, in the 1300 block of West F.
