The next widespread precipitation event for interior Northern California is expected Tuesday into Wednesday. Forecasters with the National Weather Service are predicting light to moderate rain spreading into the Central Valley on Tuesday, Nov. 17 with heavy precipitation possible in the Shasta and Western Plumas mountains and Sierra Nevada on Tuesday afternoon and Tuesday night. Breezy conditions expected in the Central Valley on Tuesday with windy conditions in the mountains. Precipitation turns showery Wednesday.

Storm total rainfall amounts at this time look to range from a few tenths in the Northern San Joaquin Valley to around an inch in the Northern Sacramento Valley. Northern and eastern foothills and mountains could see one to four inches of liquid precipitation. One to two feet of snow is possible over the higher elevations. Snow levels Tuesday into Tuesday night expected around 6000 to 7000 feet, lowering to 5500 to 6500 feet Wednesday.

Wet slick roads could impact the Tuesday commute. Persons traveling into the mountains Tuesday into Wednesday should be prepared for winter weather driving, and check the latest road conditions prior to departure.

Lingering mountain showers are possible Thursday, otherwise drier weather is expected towards the end of the week.
