Average gasoline prices in Modesto have fallen 4.7 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $4.28/gallon as of Oct. 6, according to GasBuddy’s survey of 201 stations in Modesto. Prices in Modesto are 6.0 cents per gallon lower than a month ago and stand 27.9 cents per gallon lower than a year ago. The national average price of diesel has increased 1.1 cents compared to a week ago and stands at $3.66 per gallon.
According to GasBuddy price reports, the cheapest station in Modesto was priced at $3.89/gallon while the most expensive was $5.09, a difference of $1.20/gallon. The lowest price in the state was $3.45 while the highest was $6.79, a difference of $3.34/gallon.
The national average price of gasoline has fallen 0.3 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $3.08/gallon on Oct. 6. The national average is down 10.8 cents per gallon from a month ago and stands 4.7 cents per gallon lower than a year ago, according to GasBuddy data compiled from more than 11 million weekly price reports covering over 150,000 gas stations across the country.
Neighboring areas and their current gas prices include: Stockton - $4.28/gallon, down 8.3 cents per gallon from $4.36; Oakland - $4.57, down 5.5 cents from last week’s $4.63; and San Jose - $4.54, up 4.1 cents from last week’s $4.50/gallon.
“While the national average slipped slightly over the last week, it’s once again been a mixed bag depending on where you fill up,” said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy. “Gas prices cycled upward in Ohio and Michigan, declined in Indiana and Delaware, and pain is about to return to California and neighboring states following last week’s refinery fire outside Los Angeles.”
Historical gasoline prices in Modesto and the national average going back 10 years show the highest Modesto price was $6.23 per gallon on Oct. 6, 2022 and the highest U.S. Average was $3.90 per gallon, also in 2022. Lowest Modesto price was $2.61 per gallon on Oct. 6, 2016; lowest U.S. Average was $2.17 in 2020.
