Prices jump up at local pumps

After a few weeks of declines, average gasoline prices in Modesto have risen 8.0 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $4.36/gallon as of Oct. 13, according to GasBuddy’s survey of 201 stations in Modesto. Prices in Modesto are 1.9 cents per gallon higher than a month ago and stand 14.8 cents per gallon lower than a year ago. The national average price of diesel has decreased 3.5 cents compared to a week ago and stands at $3.62 per gallon.

According to GasBuddy price reports, the cheapest station in Modesto was priced at $3.85/gallon while the most expensive was $5.09, a difference of $1.24/gallon. The lowest price in the state was $3.67 while the highest was $6.49, a difference of $2.82/gallon.

The national average price of gasoline has fallen 6.4 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $3.02/gallon on Oct. 13. The national average is down 13.7 cents per gallon from a month ago and stands 14.4 cents per gallon lower than a year ago, according to GasBuddy data compiled from more than 11 million weekly price reports covering over 150,000 gas stations across the country.

Neighboring areas and their current gas prices include: Stockton - $4.37/gallon, up 8.9 cents from last week’s $4.28; Oakland - $4.60, up 2.7 cents from $4.57; and San Jose - $4.56, up 1.9 cents per gallon from last week’s $4.54/gallon.

Historical gasoline prices in Modesto and the national average going back 10 years show the highest Modesto price per gallon was $6.07 on Oct. 13, 2022, the same date of the highest U.S. average, which was $3.92 per gallon. Lowest price in Modesto was $2.58 per gallon on Oct. 13, 2016 and the lowest U.S. average price was $2.17 per gallon on Oct. 13, 2020.
