While still slightly lower than last year, average gasoline prices in Modesto have risen 1.5 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $4.18/gallon as of Aug. 11, according to GasBuddy’s survey of 201 stations in Modesto.
Prices in Modesto are 3.2 cents per gallon lower than a month ago and stand 4.9 cents per gallon lower than a year ago. The national average price of diesel has decreased 1.8 cents compared to a week ago and stands at $3.69 per gallon.
According to GasBuddy price reports, the cheapest station in Modesto was priced at $3.79/gallon while the most expensive was $4.99, a difference of $1.20/gallon. The lowest price in the state was $2.89/gallon while the highest was $8.39, a difference of $5.50/gallon.
The national average price of gasoline has fallen 2.7 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $3.08/gallon. The national average is down 7.0 cents per gallon from a month ago and stands 32.3 cents per gallon lower than a year ago, according to GasBuddy data compiled from more than 11 million weekly price reports covering over 150,000 gas stations across the country.
Neighboring areas and their current gas prices include: Stockton - $4.35/gallon, down 3.3 cents from last week’s $4.38/gallon; Oakland - $4.51, up 1.3 cents from $4.50/gallon; and San Jose - $4.47, unchanged from last week’s $4.47/gallon.
Historical gasoline prices in Modesto and the national average going back ten years show the highest Modesto price of $5.13 per gallon was recorded on Aug. 11, 2022 with the highest U.S. Average of $3.95 per gallon also on that date. The lowest average price in Modesto was $2.41 on Aug. 11, 2016 and that was the same date for the lowest U.S. Average of $2.13 per gallon.
“After rising for two straight weeks, the national average price of gasoline saw a slight decline in the last week as oil prices fell below $64 per barrel, paving the way for prices to ease in most states,” said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy. “As we approach the peak of hurricane season, forecasts are showing favorable conditions for tropical development, so we’ll be watching closely for any potential impact on supply and prices as Labor Day nears.”
