Motorcycle competition scheduled for Saturday
cycle

The San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Department will be hosting a Motor Competition on Saturday, Sept. 27, running from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., being staged in the parking lot at the Bass Pro Shops in Manteca.

County Sheriff Patrick Withrow made note of the upcoming event during his recent monthly address, with San Joaquin County officers due to take part, as there is a motorcycle unit within the sheriff’s department.

“I’ve attended one there before and it’s absolutely amazing,” Withrow said of the competition.

He said motorcycle officers from “all over the state” are expected to be there to take part in the competition.

“Their skills on the motorcycles are just amazing,” the sheriff added. “Come out during that day, it’s free to the public.”

The family friendly event is admission free and there will also be displays and a chance to see several specialty units up close, including SWAT Bearcat, the drone team, bomb squad, mounted patrol unit, K9 team, boats and more.

Along with the motorcycle competition, Withrow also provided an update on various happenings for the department, including a recent Sheriff’s Ball fundraiser that saw more than 500 people in attendance.

Sheriff Withrow also detailed the capture of a fugitive, who cut off his ankle monitor while on home detention and fled the state. Through a cooperative investigation, the suspect was located on a Greyhound bus, taken into custody by authorities in Texas, and will face charges back in San Joaquin County.

“If people victimize our citizens here, they’re going to pay for their crimes here,” Withrow vowed. “We will go anywhere, anytime, to get these guys when they flee from our jurisdiction. If they think we’re not going to come after them, they’re just dead wrong.”

Withrow thanked the authorities in Texas and all law enforcement agencies that were involved in the search and subsequent arrest of the fugitive.

Overall, he added, it has been a busy, good month for the department.

“We’ve been very proactive,” the sheriff said.
