Average gasoline prices in Modesto have risen less than a penny – up just 0.5 cents per gallon – in the last week, averaging $4.27/gallon as of Monday, Nov. 3, according to GasBuddy’s survey of 201 stations in Modesto.

Prices in Modesto are 10.9 cents per gallon lower than a month ago and stand 9.5 cents per gallon higher than a year ago. The national average price of diesel has increased 2.5 cents compared to a week ago and stands at $3.66 per gallon.

According to GasBuddy price reports, the cheapest station in Modesto was priced at $3.79/gallon while the most expensive was $5.11, a difference of $1.32/gallon. The lowest price in the state was $3.25 while the highest was $6.29, a difference of $3.04/gallon.

Neighboring areas and their current gas prices include: Stockton - $4.26/gallon, down 4.1 cents from last week’s $4.31; Oakland - $4.53, up 1.9 cents from $4.51/gallon; and San Jose- $4.48/gallon, down 3.5 cents from last week’s $4.52/gallon.

The national average price of gasoline has fallen 1.4 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $2.99/gallon on Nov. 3. The national average is down 14.8 cents per gallon from a month ago and stands 6.6 cents per gallon lower than a year ago, according to GasBuddy data compiled from more than 11 million weekly price reports covering over 150,000 gas stations across the country.

“The national average once again briefly dipped below the $3 per gallon mark, but the drop will be short-lived,” said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy. “Gas prices are likely to rebound soon in the Great Lakes states due to ongoing refinery challenges, while a new snag at a California refinery may slow the pace of declines on the West Coast.”

Historical gasoline prices in Modesto and the national average going back ten years show the highest Modesto price was $5.23 per gallon on Nov. 3, 2023 and the highest U.S. average was $3.77 per gallon on Nov. 3, 2022. Lowest price in Modesto in the last 10 years was the $2.57 per gallon on Nov. 3 of both 2015 and 2016; lowest U.S. average of $2.10 per gallon was on Nov. 3, 2020.
