The Oakdale Garden Club will resume its monthly meetings now that the holiday season has concluded.
The next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 17 at 10 a.m. at the Community Methodist Church, 1480 Poplar St., Oakdale. New members are always welcome to join and learn more about gardening.
This month’s guest speaker, Anne Schellman, will give the history of tea and how to grow it yourself. Schellman has a keen interest in plants, animals, and nature. She credits her grandfather for her love of plants, and Modesto Junior College for helping her discover a career in horticulture. She has a degree in Environmental Horticultural Science from Cal Poly State University, San Luis Obispo along with a master’s degree in Community Development from UC Davis. For over eight years, she has worked for Stanislaus County as the Master Gardener Coordinator.
Some activities of the Oakdale Garden Club include maintenance of the downtown Oakdale flower pots on the fourth Monday morning of each month. The Community Garden, located on East A Street near the Glady Lemmons Senior Center, is overseen by the Garden Club with over 30 plots and raised boxes available for community members to rent for their own gardens. Members will also be sprucing up the area, which includes weeding, pruning, and getting areas ready for spring planting.
