Three people were killed and three others injured in a Sunday night crash along Mariposa Road on Oct. 19.

Authorities said the incident occurred shortly after 9:15 p.m.; names of the deceased were released this past week by the San Joaquin County Coroner’s Office.

The Stockton CHP also responded to the scene and filed the incident report.

According to the report, it was a two-vehicle, head-on crash that occurred on Mariposa Road west of Dodds Road. It was in the Farmington Fire District, with crews from Farmington responding in addition to personnel from Escalon Fire Department and Ripon Fire Department, along with several ambulance companies and an air ambulance.

The CHP report indicates that a gray Ford SUV was traveling eastbound on Mariposa Road and a silver Hyundai was traveling westbound on Mariposa Road. The driver of the Ford SUV allowed it to cross into the westbound lane directly into the path of the Hyundai sedan, causing the head-on crash in the westbound lane.

The right front passenger in the Hyundai sedan, later identified as Jonathan Jose Corona Chavez, 22, from Stockton, was pronounced deceased on scene. There were three juveniles in the Hyundai and two were unresponsive. All three juveniles were transported to the San Joaquin General Hospital. Two juveniles were pronounced deceased at the hospital; identified by the coroner’s office as Ariella Corona Miranda, 4, and Xtaly Corona Miranda, 2, both from Stockton.

A one-year-old in the vehicle suffered major injuries and the driver of the Hyundai, listed by the CHP as the children’s mother, was transported to San Joaquin General Hospital with major injuries.

The driver of the Ford SUV – whose name was not released in the CHP report – was transported to Modesto Memorial Hospital with moderate injuries and was arrested for driving under the influence.
