A free Wednesday night dinner is set for tonight, June 22 at Trinity Church in Escalon. The church at 1900 California hosts community dinners on the last two Wednesdays of the month, designed to help local families make ends meet. Offered as part of the church’s ‘Love Escalon’ initiative, the meal is open to all and serving starts at 6 p.m. Also, the church opens its adjacent Clothes Closet at 6:30 p.m. the night of the dinners for those that need clothing. The menu varies from week to week; organizers encourage everyone in the community to attend. Work on the Escalon Youth Center, an outreach ministry of Trinity Church, also continues, with a hoped for grand opening later this summer.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Sacramento District will hold a public meeting on Wednesday, June 22 to seek public input on proposed changes to the Stanislaus River Parks master plan. The master plan guides the management of natural and cultural resources and the development of recreation-related facilities in and around the Corps-managed park near Oakdale and was last updated in 1977. Anyone interested in helping guide changes to the master plan can respond to the questionnaire until July 25, 2016 to luke.w.burns@usace.army.mil or during the June 22 public meeting. The public meeting will take place from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Community Center at 110 S. Second Ave. in Oakdale. It will be an open house format, and there will not be a formal opportunity for audience questions or comments.

The next session of the Senior Gentle Exercise Class will be Thursday, June 23 from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. and Tuesday, June 28 from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Escalon Library. Class is open to all area senior citizens on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Also on Tuesdays, the drop in knitting group is open to all with an interest in the craft; bring your own materials and enjoy knitting and socialization from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Valley Art Association is hosting its Spring Art Show at the Riverbank City Council Chambers, 6707 Third St., Suite B, in Riverbank later this month. The Art Show viewing is Saturday, June 25 and is open to the public from noon to 3 p.m. Entries are for members only and new members are welcome. Receiving of entries is 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, June 24. Entry categories are oil/acrylics, water media, pastel, graphics/mixed media, sculpture and graphics.

The California Trucking Association – San Joaquin Unit will host its 15th annual Truckin’ for Hospice fundraiser on Saturday, June 25 to raise money for two local nonprofit hospice organizations, Community Hospice and Hospice of San Joaquin. Riders enjoy a one-of-a-kind motorcycle poker run through the Sierra foothills with unique stop locations providing appetizing food, refreshing beverages and great raffle prizes as well as a Grand Raffle Prize. Even if you are not a rider, everyone is encouraged to participate; you can also drive your car or truck or join all the riders at the final stop for a BBQ, Truck Show and Raffle. Riverbank welcomes the REO Speechtrain Toastmasters Club for regular meetings every Wednesday morning, 6:30 a.m. to 7:45 a.m., at Perko’s Cafe, Patterson and Oakdale roads, Riverbank. On Saturday Aug. 20, from 8 a.m. until noon, the Escalon Lions Club will be hosting a City Wide Shred Day, for residents to dispose of accumulated paper materials that need to be securely disposed of. This event is open to all Escalon residents residing in the Escalon School District boundaries. Those attending to utilize the shredding service are asked to bring at least one can of food per box or bag of paper materials for shredding, to be donated to a local food bank. Each residential household will be limited to three copy paper sized boxes, or five grocery bags of paper to be shred. This event will be at the Escalon Park and Ride lot, at Main and Viking streets in Escalon.

The Turlock Certified Farmers Market (TCFM) will now be held every Saturday, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. through Oct. 29 in the Ag Pavilion located near the Hilmar Cheese entrance gate or the West Gate off of Soderquist Road at the Stanislaus County Fairgrounds in Turlock. Blackout dates include the two Saturdays of Fair, July 9 and 16. Guests will be able to enjoy fresh produce, local ingredients, and hand-made items. Parking will be made available on Soderquist Road, as well as inside the Fairgrounds.
