Escalon High School seniors Rylie Lattig and Sawyer Mello have been selected as the school’s 2022-2023 Trans-Valley League Scholar-Athlete award winners.

“The requirements for this award are to be a multi-sport athlete, have a 3.5 GPA or higher, and have outstanding citizenship,” noted Athletic Director Andrew Beam, who was on hand as the students received their awards.

Lattig has been a standout for several Lady Cougar teams during her high school career, including volleyball, soccer and tennis.

Mello has been a key part of a trio of sports as well, suiting up for football, basketball and tennis.

“Rylie is a three-sport athlete, 3.85 GPA, team captain and highly deserving of this award. She is headed to Boise State to major in nursing,” Beam explained. “Sawyer is a three-sport athlete, 3.65 GPA, great person and teammate. He is headed to CSU Fullerton to major in mathematics.”

The seniors received the recognition this past week, and both were busy during the week as well, helping the Cougars earn a three-way TVL championship in tennis.
