As a result of the generosity of sponsors, donors, and attendees of last year’s Imagination Celebration Gala put on through the Modesto Children’s Museum, the organization was able to fund 64 camp scholarships to attend the museum’s Camp MoChiMu — 33 campers were fully funded through scholarship support this summer with the remaining to be used for next summer’s Camp MoChiMu.

These scholarships were made possible by funds raised at the 2024 Imagination Celebration Gala, allowing children from throughout the area to engage in creative, science, and confidence building activities — many for the first time.

“I’m happy because I got to do tie-dye shirts and all the fun activities,” shared one young camper who received a scholarship. “I learned a lesson — that the climber (adventure climber exhibit in the Museum) is not scary. The teachers were nice and I loved the camp.”

From art, science and outdoor adventures to team-building games and leadership activities, the summer program fostered imagination, curiosity, and joy and gave children a safe and inspiring space to grow.

“I can’t express how grateful we are. This camp gave my child a chance to try new things, make friends, and build confidence — and we wouldn’t have been able to afford it without the scholarship. He came home smiling every day and is already asking if he can go back next year,” said one parent whose son received a scholarship.

Funds from last year’s Imagination Celebration Gala are already allocated to provide scholarships for next summer’s camp, ensuring that even more children can participate regardless of financial barriers.

This year’s Imagination Celebration Gala is just around the corner, and area residents are being encouraged to attend or donate to help Modesto Children’s Museum continue the momentum.

“Every ticket, sponsorship, and donation directly supports our mission to create inclusive, inspiring experiences for local youth,” noted museum officials.

This year they are expanding access to reach beyond scholarships, building up funds to increase access to families through the Museums for All and Discover and Go program.

“Every dollar raised at this year’s Gala will support the museum’s mission to enrich the lives of all children,” officials added.

The gala is scheduled for Friday, Sept. 19 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., being hosted at the Modesto Children’s Museum, 928 11th St., Modesto.
