Heat advisory issued for region through Saturday

Issued by the National Weather Service in Sacramento, high temperatures will be impacting the region and a heat advisory remains in effect through 11 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 23.

High temperatures of 95 to 107 are predicted with overnight low temperatures in the mid 60s to 70s. There is widespread moderate heat risk with areas of major heat risk associated with this advisory.

Impacted areas include the Northern San Joaquin Valley, Carquinez Strait and Delta, Mountains of Southwestern Shasta County to Western Colusa County, Shasta Lake Area/Northern Shasta County, and Sacramento Valley.

Heat related illnesses increase significantly during heat events, particularly for those working or participating in outdoor activities.

Recommendations are to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.

Also, take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
