Edging slightly upward, average gasoline prices in Modesto rose 2.4 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $4.58/gallon as of May 5. That’s according to GasBuddy’s survey of 201 stations in Modesto, which shows that prices in Modesto are 18.4 cents per gallon lower than a month ago and stand 65.7 cents per gallon lower than a year ago.
According to GasBuddy price reports, the cheapest station in Modesto was priced at $4.19/gallon while the most expensive was $5.19. The lowest price in the state was $3.50 while the highest was $8.09, a difference of $4.59/gallon.
The national average price of gasoline has risen 2.0 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $3.12/gallon on May 5. The national average is down 12.0 cents per gallon from a month ago and stands 49.6 cents per gallon lower than a year ago, according to GasBuddy data compiled from more than 11 million weekly price reports covering over 150,000 gas stations across the country.
Historical gasoline prices in Modesto and the national average going back 10 years show the highest Modesto price was $5.49 per gallon on May 5, 2022 and the highest U.S. average of $4.27 was also in 2022. Lowest price in Modesto was $2.43 per gallon on May 5, 2020 and the lowest U.S. average price per gallon of $1.78 was also in 2020.
Neighboring areas and their current gas prices include: Stockton - $4.59/gallon, down 2.3 cents per gallon from last week’s $4.62; Oakland - $4.84, up one cent from $4.83; and San Jose - $4.85, up 5.3 cents per gallon from $4.80/gallon.
“Last week was another mixed bag at the pump for many Americans, but there may be some promising short-term news from OPEC+, which has agreed to increase oil production starting in June,” said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy. “Here in the U.S., slightly more than half of the states saw gas prices rise, while many others saw modest declines.”
