Gas prices are still on the rise locally

According to GasBuddy’s survey of 201 stations in Modesto, average gasoline prices in Modesto have risen 17.9 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $5.47/gallon as of Monday, March 23. Prices in Modesto are 99.7 cents per gallon higher than a month ago and stand $1.10/gallon higher than a year ago. The national average price of diesel has increased 27.0 cents compared to a week ago and stands at $5.22 per gallon, the highest level since Nov. 24, 2022.

According to GasBuddy price reports, the cheapest station in Modesto was priced at $4.99 while the most expensive was $6.45, a difference of $1.46/gallon. The lowest price in the state was $4.39 while the highest was $9.89, a difference of $5.50/gallon.

Neighboring areas and their current gas prices include: Stockton - $5.50/gallon, up 24.2 cents per gallon from last week’s $5.26; Oakland - $5.78, up 26.7 cents from $5.51; and San Jose - $5.77, up 29.8 cents per gallon from last week’s $5.47/gallon.

The national average price of gasoline has risen 24.3 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $3.92/gallon on March 23. The national average is up 98.9 cents per gallon from a month ago and stands 84.1 cents per gallon higher than a year ago, according to GasBuddy data compiled from more than 11 million weekly price reports covering over 150,000 gas stations across the country.

“Gas prices continued to rise nationwide over the last week as seasonal factors, combined with ongoing supply concerns tied to the continued disruption in the Strait of Hormuz, pushed both gasoline and diesel prices sharply higher,” said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy.
