It’s a Disney theme this week on the campus of Escalon High School, as students, staff and administrators are taking part in the Winter Homecoming festivities.
Events will wrap up with a noontime rally on Friday, Jan. 9 and a trio of home basketball games that evening, with crowning of the Homecoming King during halftime of the varsity boys basketball game.
Monday, Jan. 5 featured a Star Was theme while Tuesday was Fantasyland. Wednesday, Jan. 7 is Mickey’s Toontown and Thursday’s theme is Adventureland.
“Friday’s theme is Monsters University, Monsters, Inc. but with extreme purple and gold for the school colors,” said Associated Student Body advisor Seth Davis, helping students coordinate the activities.
Hilmar will be the opponent for the Trans-Valley Leage basketball contests and the games will kick off with the JV boys at 4 p.m., followed by varsity girls at 5:30 p.m., varsity boys at 7 p.m.
The Homecoming King court was announced on Monday, Jan. 5, as students returned to school from the long holiday break.
In the running for King are seniors, in alphabetical order, Efrain Olivera Andrade, Ben Ferreira, Luke Hernandez, Rylan Koops and Nathan Rose.
Davis said they also are going to recognize underclassmen, with three at each grade level – freshman, sophomore and junior – nominated for titles as well.
“They will be announced at the rally,” Davis said of the winners among the underclassmen.
Juniors in the running for ‘Prince’ are Ethan Haskin, Nathan Watson and Zayden Vigil. The sophomores nominated for ‘Duke’ are Jayden Abram, Bracco Rissetto and Rhodey Trimble. Freshman ‘Gentlemen in Waiting’ nominees are Jaxon Degruy, John Van Dyk and Diego Zarate.
Davis noted that the ASB team working to bring all the Homecoming activities together are Jose Aguirre, Brianne Coelho, Mia Fernandes, Luke Gutierrez, Riley Miranda, Ariella Partida, Emma Rangel, Dominic Rissetto and Ricardo Rodriguez.
